August Marinello

Marinello, August J. ?Gus? Passed away on Father?s Day, June 17, 2007, at the age of 87. Loving husband of Melba (Caviglia) Marinello; devoted father of Russell (Eileen) Marinello and Susan (Thomas) Stenson; beloved grandfather of Jeffry (Connie), Jason and Lisa Marinello, Georgina (Ofa) Veimau and Marisa Tassio; doting great-grandfather of Dominic and Tony Veimau and Emily and Tyler Marinello; cherished son of the late August Marinello and the late Jennie (Catania) Grossi; loving nephew of Lee (Catania) Stura, Doris (Catania) Rillings and Frank Catania and the late August, Joe and Leonard Catania,; loving brother-in-law of Bruno and the late Frances (Caviglia) Malucchi; also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends. Gus was born on December 1, 1919, and lived his entire life in San Francisco. He attended Galileo High School where he proudly sang ?O Sole Mio? as a soloist at his graduation in 1937. Growing up in North Beach, Gus was proud of his accomplishments on the tennis court and baseball field. He married Melba, his neighborhood sweetheart, on October 19, 1941 at All Hallows Church. He proudly served during WWII in the United States Army in New Caledonia with the 423rd Quartermaster Company. After the war, Gus began his career as a butcher at Grant Market. He then became a partner and later sole owner at Etalo Meat Market on San Bruno Avenue in the Portola District. Upon retirement in 1981, Gus loved to dance, listen to music, play golf, work in his garden, play cards and spend time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Native Sons of the Golden West National Parlor #118, past member of SIRS Branch No. 91 and a regular guest at the Peninsula Social Club in San Mateo. He was a devoted husband, a terrific dad, nonno, great-grandpa, uncle and a loyal friend. We will all miss him very much. Friends and family may visit on Sunday, July 1, 2007 after 4:00 p.m. with the Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. at VALENTE MARINI PERATA & CO., 4840 Mission Street, San Francisco. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 2, at 11:00 am. at the Church of the Visitacion, 655 Sunnydale Avenue. Committal to follow at the Italian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Visitations: 4:00PM to 9:00PM on Sunday, July 1st, 2007 at Valente Marini Perata & Co.
