Beatrice Segale

Beatrice Arline Segale, 83, of Sebastopol, CA passed away quietly on Friday, January 4, 2008 in Sebastopol. She courageously fought leukemia for four months, never losing her spirit or faith. Born May 5, 1924 in San Francisco, she grew up and spent most of her life in San Francisco where she graduated from Girl's High School and attended SF City College. She retired from her secretary position for the San Francisco Boys and Girls Club. She was a member of St. Anne's Church in San Francisco. Mrs. Segale was the daughter of the late Paul Ackenhiel and the late Dusine Ackenhiel (Hansen). She was the widow of Henry P. Segale, having been married for 35 years. She will always be remembered for her interesting and engaging stories, especially those stories surrounding her family and children. Among her favorite hobbies were reading, playing the piano, crossword puzzles and baking cookies and pies. She often dreamed of being a writer and put many stories to paper. Beatrice had the natural ability to walk into a quiet and dull room and suddenly make it feel brighter and more upbeat. Beatrice touched the lives of many with her kindness and support and love of life. She loved animals and will always be remembered for her gallant efforts in caring for a diabetic cat named Barney. Her friends often described her as someone who would always be there for them and she frequently commented on how much she appreciated the unconditional love of her family and friends. She was especially grateful for the number of years with one of her closest friends, the late Mary Ann Smith. Those left to treasure her many memories is her daughter, Sandra Blake and her husband Brent of Wilsonville, Oregon and her son Robert Segale and his wife Elaine of Sebastopol. She is also survived by her cousin, Lily Hansen Greer, who last year turned 103 years old. She will be remembered by her step-grandchildren Richard Baddeley of Brentwood, CA, Dominic Tufo (Ofelia) of Watsonville and Michelle Robinson (Dev-ven) of Boston, MA and step-great grandchildren Beau and Blake Baddeley and twins Matteo and Ofelia Tufo and many other loving family members. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends and the world is a better place for having had her for 83 years. "To make a long story short!"
