Mr. Charles Edward Berry

Charles Edward Berry. Born in Cisco, Texas. Charles passed away with his family at his side on January 20th at the age of 75 after a brief battle with cancer. Devoted son of the late Emmitt and Frances Berry. Beloved husband of the late Carole Berry. Adored father of Constance Halog, Stephanie Berry, Charles (Butch) Berry and the late Steve Berry. Loving father in-law of Kerri Berry, Maria Berry and Tony Halog. Cherished grandfather of Mitchell, Olivia and Madison. Loved brother and brother in-law of Dan and Geraldine Berry. After graduating high school, Charles joined the Navy and proudly served for ten years, being honorably discharged in 1965 as Aviation Storekeeper, First Class. He served aboard the aircraft carriers Shangri La and Bon Homme Richard. It was while stationed at Moffett Field that he met his beloved Carole who at the time was a student at SJSU. They married in 1960 and began a life together that lasted 53 years. After the navy, Charles began a 33 year career with Southern Pacific Railroad then later with IBM. In the late sixties when SP computerized their train operations, he was a member of the implementation team as a programmer, later becoming a systems analyst. His family meant everything to him. After he retired, he provided regular daycare for his grandchildren. When his son Steve started his own glazing business, Charles gladly joined him to help run the office. Over the last year, he was the primary caregiver to his wife as she battled cancer. He liked to fish. He enjoyed sports. He was a faithful Dallas Cowboys fan and was a Little League umpire for a short while in his early twenties. He was a devout Christian. He was a man of strong principles and integrity. Although analytical and reserved, he had a dry sense of humor and possessed a pleasant, warm nature which people found engaging. Everybody liked Charlie, as his friends called him. He was kind man who will be missed by many. Dad, Pappa, we love you. Family and friends may visit on Sunday January 26th from 9:00AM to 9:00PM and are invited to attend the Funeral Service also on Sunday at 6:00PM at Valente Marini Perata 4840 Mission St., and join the Committal on Monday January 27th departing the Funeral Home at 9:30AM for 10:00AM Service at the Italian Cemetery 540 F St., Colma, CA.
