Elaine Piffero

Elaine Arone Piffero passed away on Aug. 19th after a courageous battle with a long-term illness at age 93. Born and raised in San Francisco, she enjoyed living in the city by the bay her entire life. Elaine is survived by her loving husband Arnold Piffero whom she was married to for 66 years. She is also survived by her devoted daughters: Judith Calderoni (Carlo) of South San Francisco and Joanne Santoni (Richard) of Livermore; granddaughters: Kathleen Kovalek, Sandra Kovalek and Michelle Calderoni along with many nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved sisters: Eleanor Leone, Carolyn Daveggio, Teresa Fertitta, Mary Sullivan and Josephine Arone. A waitress for many years, her most memorable years of working were at the Emporium Lunch Counter on Market Street, San Francisco. Elaine was a founding member of the Hillcrest Elementary School P.T.A. Sewing Club. The "Club" was a source of joy and friendship which she continued to participate in until she became ill in 1996. She had a passion for baking and was most famous for her "Italian" & "M&M" cookies. One thing that always made her smile was music and dancing, something she loved her entire life. She had a large and generous heart which she shared with numerous individuals and local philanthropies. She was extremely charitable and always thought about and cared for those who were in need especially those at the Laguna Honda Hospital. Family and friends may visit after 4pm Thursday and are invited to attend the Vigil service Thursday 7pm August 21, 2008 at the chapels of Valente Marini Perata & Co., 4840 Mission St., San Francisco. A Funeral Mass and burial will be private. Donations may be made to Laguna Honda Hospital, St. Anthony's Dining Room or the charity of your choice.
