Elena Villalta

Born: January 10th, 1920 Passed away: November 22, 2012 Elena (Nena) Bran de Villalta has finally reunited with the love of her life, Hugo H. Villalta; her husband of 58 years and her eldest son Nelson Villalta. Devoted and loving mother to; Nelson, Hugh, Ana, Maryellen and Heliu (Yacky). Born in La Union, El Salvador to her parents Horacio E. Bran and Dolores Maria D. Nunez. Elena was one of four children. She has joined her siblings Julio and Carlos Bran; and survived by her siblings Victoria and Miguel (Mike) Bran. When Elena was a young woman, she moved to San Francisco with her husband during the post depression era of the 1930?s. Initiating and hosting a Salvadorian community group. They quickly became an integral part of this community. During her 35 year residence in San Francisco she became part of the post WWII woman workforce. She held positions with high responsibility which allowed her to assist many other women in obtaining employment. Upon her return to El Salvador she and her husband established a business by which they provided employment and skill training to many. She also became a volunteer for the non- profit catholic association of Saint Vicent of Paul which provided assistance to low income and abandoned senior citizens. Her dedication for this charitable association was quickly recognized when she was elected treasurer, then vice president, and ultimately President. With a soul of an artist she did exceptional work with crochet, knitting, textile arts and designed clothing. Guided by a spiritual force and a clairvoyant gift she was a tarot reader who helped many in despair. After the death of her husband she returned to her beloved city of San Francisco where she resided with her son Hugh Villalta. Her daughter Maryellen Villalta provided both with tremendous emotional and physical support. Together they both provided loving care to their mother. She lived her life with courage, humor and empathy to others with exceptional grace to the very end. She maneuvered her soul through calm seas and strong torments; in essence, she was a strong survivor.
