Flora Valente

Flora was born in San Francisco weighing only 3 lbs and not expected to live, yet she overcame the odds and enjoyed 90 years of health. She is preceded in death by parents Giusto and Amelia and DeZordo, immigrants of Cibiana di Cadore, Italy. Her beloved Saverio stole her heart and married her at a young but mature age of 18 and they celebrated their 50th before his passing. She is also preceded in death by her loving companion Dominic Oliveri, her brother Sidney and sister-in-law Mary. She bore six healthy children Gerald (Lucille), Gene, Val (Pamela), Linda (David) Bucher, Janice (Gaetano) Schiavone, and the late Lorraine (Allan) Bergstrom. She was loving Grandmother to Gerald, Jr. (Darleen), Steven (Sandee), Gino (Cathy), Vincent, Tony, Marc; Michael (Amy), Paul, Dino, Roberto (Victoria), Marco, Marisa (Massimo), and David (Ruby) and proud Great-Grandmother to 15 adoring children and loved her step-grandchildren and their children as well. She is also survived by her loving nieces Maria Bernardo Blin, Sandra, Bonnie and Sydney and their families.A resident of San Francisco?s Bernal Heights for 85 years, Flora worked with Saverio at their cleaning business on Cortland Ave. for 18 years. After selling their business, she needed to keep busy and was hired as a teller at Bank of America on Cortland Ave. for 24 years, retiring at 74.Yet, despite her busy schedule she always had a spotless home with dinner on the table every night by 6pm. In her spare time she sewed and knit clothes for herself and her children. She was an excellent cook and always willing to have family and friends for dinner at a moment's notice. She always had time to listen to everyone, giving them encouragement and kind words along the way. She was a kind, gracious and loving person and will be missed by all who knew her.Friends may visit after 5:00 PM on Thursday and are invited to attend the vigil service also on Thursday at 7:00 PM and the funeral Friday at 11:00 AM all at the chapels of Valente Marini Perata & Co., 4840 Mission St., SF.
