Mrs. Ida Azzolino

Ida Lombardi Azzolino, born June 12, 1947 in a small village in Calabria, Italy, passed peacefully at her home on May 9, 2017, surrounded by her loving family, following a valiant two year battle with cancer. Cherished mother to Mary Grace (Paolo), Lucia, Sergio (Jennifer), Gina (Seth) and Mario. Adored Nonna to Matthew, Angela, Anthony, Giovanni, Philip, Thomas, Alexander, Adriana, Zoe, Seth, Joshua, Alessia and Francesco. Dear sister to Lena (Dave) Cava, Silvia (Frank) Vicino and Josephine (Gino) Arieta. Dear sister-in-law to Giuseppe Azzolino (Carmela), Maria (Osilio Nevigato), Rosa Azzolino, Felice Azzolino (Rita), Elvira Sandoval Perazzo, and Tony Azzolino (Connie). Beloved cousin, aunt, great-aunt, godmother, friend, confidant and advisor to many. Ida was predeceased in death by her loving husband of 41 years, Frank; parents, Giovanni and Maria Lombardi; in-laws, Salvatore and Grazia Azzolino; brothers-in-law, Jesus Sandoval, Dave Perazzo and Vincenzo Azzolino; sister-in-law, Grace Atkinson; and son-in-law, Paul Dew. Ida came to San Francisco on October 13, 1961 at the young age of 14 to join her father and two older sisters in building a better life for the family. She worked as a seamstress prior to obtaining her cosmetology license. She continued to work as a cosmetologist in her home “shop” until recently when her illness forced her retirement. Her shop was a gathering place for many of the neighborhood women who were like family to her, some having been clients for over 40 years. Ida was also a devoted parishoner of Church of the Epiphany, having served the Church and Epiphany School in countless ways. On July 5, 1964, Ida married her beloved late husband, Frank, at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in San Francisco, CA. Their marriage was a love story for the ages, having produced five children, 13 grandchildren and innumerable laughs and smiles for all those around them. Ida was known for many things – her laughter, smile, wisdom, selflessness, resilience and perseverance, not to mention her cooking and baking. Above all, she cherished her family and put them first in every aspect of her life, sacrificing for them to ensure their success and happiness. She touched countless family and friends with her unconditional love and left behind infinite beautiful memories of the wonderful woman she was. Friends may visit on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at 4 p.m. at Valente Marini Perata & Co., 4849 Mission Street, San Francisco. The Vigil Service will be held on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral will be Thursday, May 18, from Valente Marini Perata & Co.; thence to Church of the Epiphany where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. The committal services will be at the Italian Cemetery in Colma.
