Irene Moreci

Irene Benedetta Moreci May 3, 1934 ? June 10, 2010 A Beautiful Voice Irene Moreci, a longtime member of the San Francisco Opera Company and lifetime San Franciscan, passed away Thursday evening at home with her family by her side after a long courageous battle with cancer. Irene sang all of her life and gave great joy to so many that had the pleasure to hear her beautiful voice. She was a fixture in the performing Arts community singing with the Simi Cantori Group, annually at the Italian Day at Golden Gate Park as well as every Sunday at Sts. Peter and Paul church. Irene also sang for over 20 years in the S.F. Opera Company, performing in such classics as Carmen, Pagliachi, Turandot, and La Boeme. In 1956, Irene met and married Vince Moreci and started a family. Soon she would be blessed with four boys, Steve, Lenny, Vince, and Greg. However, several years later tragedy struck the family when her husband suddenly passed away at the age of 42. Through it all, Irene?s fortitude of spirit gave way to a nurturing and supportive voice for her children while balancing a rigorous opera career. Irene also taught at the Marina Middle School where she worked with severely mentally and physically challenged students. Irene dedicated her life in the service of others through her beautiful smile, generous heart, and glorious voice. Irene will be missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have known her including her adoring family. She was truly a Beautiful Voice. Irene Moreci was the beloved mother to Steve, Lenny, Vince, and Greg; affectionately known as Noni to Nick, Lauren, Dante, Leana, Marina, and Melissa; Adored sister to Dave Marcelli and Patricia Poli and daughter to Giulio and Martha Marcelli. Rosary service will be held on Tuesday June 15th at 7pm at Valente Marini Perata & Co.: 4840 Mission St., S.F., 94112. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday June 16th at 10:30 am at Sts.
