June Liskamm

Born in Lynbrook, Long Island, NY June 23, 1934, passed away May 3, 2010, Oakland, CA. Attended Malverne High School, NY, class of 1950, Grove City College, PA, graduate 1954; Teacher?s College, Columbia University, pursued a Masters in Education. Married William Liskamm 1954, and early on, worked at Harvard University Law School and led a preteen center for the US Army in Germany while accompanying Bill who was stationed there. They had three daughters together, Erika, Thea and Fiona. In 1967, the family traveled to England while Bill taught at the University of London, then they all traveled around Europe in their VW bus. Following their divorce in 1972, June continued to raise her three daughters. Her career spanned many years as a paralegal; retired from CA State Dept. of Insurance as Senior Legal Analyst specializing in litigation analysis regarding federal and state risk retention acts and corporate affairs filings. She also mentored and assisted with training newly-hired paralegals and attorneys with her solid knowledge of the legal principles, statutory law and practical regulatory application of that law. She wrote the Purchasing Group Manual to enable staff to function in the area of alternative insurance regulation. During the rebuilding from the loss of her home in the Oakland Firestorm, June was chosen to staff the department?s table at two investigative hearings on the Oakland Firestorm and attended more than forty insurer-specific policyholder meetings to report to the attorney in charge of Firestorm matters. Upon retirement, she volunteered as an Information Officer with the CA Superior Court in Alameda County and enjoyed traveling outside the US. A very gifted musician, June played the organ professionally and the piano. She had an immense passion for music, especially opera, and the arts, and she loved watching her grandchildren perform. She belonged to numerous opera, symphony, theater, art organizations and museums and attended events often. She had an exceptional ability to appreciate worldly and historical art, crafts, and architecture and participated in a local art history class for more than 10 years. We will deeply miss her unwavering zeal and vitality, her extraordinary intellect, her great enthusiasm for art, theater, and music, her unique sense of humor and her deep passion for her family and friends. June is survived by her companion of eight years, William Hartrick, her three daughters, three granddaughters April, Jenna, and Jasmine, cousins Barbara (Jim), Kay (Don), their children and the many friends she was blessed to include in her life.
