Mr. Robert Edmond Fontan

Robert E. Fontan was born March 15, 1934 and died peacefully at home in Evie’s arms on May 31, 2015 in San Francisco, California. At age 17, Bobby joined the United State Air Force. He served four years during the Korean War and spent time in Japan. He returned to San Francisco after completing his term and began his career as a mechanic for Pan American Airlines. Bobby later joined San Francisco Muni where he made many life-long friends which included Hector Baiza, John Estebez, Milton Gee, Dominic Gallwitz, the late Toby Velasquez and Ray Bermudez to name a few. In 1964, Bobby met Evie Velasquez. Bobby was Evie’s devoted husband, lover, soul mate and best friend for over 50 years. Bobby will live forever in her heart. Bobby enjoyed spending time with his pets, especially Jean-Pierre (cockatoo) and his beloved cats, Jon-Tom, Charley & Jaspurr, Buddy and last but not least, the twin babies, Lucy & Buddy Jr. He also enjoyed “creating” special gifts with his wife, fixing just about anything and he was always available to lend a helping hand with his mechanic skills. Bobby was the caring brother of the late Annette J. Fontan and Paul Fontan. He touched the lives of many people with his kindness, generosity and ever present smile. His much loved neighbors– Sebastian, Lucrecia and Jay Flores were lucky enough to become part of his extended family. He was also the cherished brother-in-law of Sylvia and Tony Casali, uncle to Phil and Betty Tafoya, Bekki and John Cataldo, and Joey Velasquez. Much loved great uncle of Alexandra, Sebastian, Gabriela, Johny and Kimmy. He will be fondly missed by Darrell and Lorraine Raggio, the Hanscom and Love families, and goddaughters, Linda Ricci and Lori Mouldenhauer, along with countless other friends who loved him dearly. Mrs. Fontan wishes to thank Drs. Moretti, Schwartz, Kmucha, Wu, Brion, Tsang , Katz and the nursing staff at Seton Hospital for taking good care of her husband. Friends and family may visit after 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2015 and are invited to attend a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. and the Funeral Friday, June 5th 10:00 a.m. from the chapels of Valente Marini Perata & Co., 4840 Mission Street thence to Immaculate Conception Church where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. followed by graveside services at Holy Cross Cemetery
