Blanche Fregosi

After a long illness, Blanche passed away on April 3, 2010, surrounded by her devoted family. She is survived by Alfred Fregosi, her husband of sixty-six years, and daughters Christine, Joanne Fregosi Masseno (Rick), and Janet Fregosi Attiogbe (Kwablah). She was the loving grandmother of Josef Fregosi (Kelli), Seon, and Gina Masseno, and Mable and Semanu Attiogbe.Blanche was born in Tuolumne, California, the sixth of Victoria and Oscar Crandall?s eight children: John, Clyde, Bill, Myrtle, Ruby, June, and Ray. Of the siblings, she is survived by her sister June Malkemus (Wes) and her brother Ray Crandall (Eileen). Growing up in the Depression, Blanche was a National Merit Scholar, but had to defer college after her father?s premature death, in order to help her family. During World War II she worked at St. Mary?s Pre-Flight in Moraga, California, where she met Alfred, the love of her life.A few years after getting married in San Francisco, she and Al moved to San Mateo, where they raised a family and made a home for sixty years. They were able to spend many happy winters in Hawaii, where she fell in love with the music and the land. She loved to travel, was a phenomenal cook, and showed great compassion for those who were less fortunate. As a result of her warmth and interest in other cultures she was called ?Mother? and ?Grandmother? by people from beyond her immediate family --Italy, Mongolia, Ghana, and Hawaii. Her tender heart extended to her ?grand dogs??Maggie, Mia, Radar, and Lucy. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. Blanche endured the last years of illness with her characteristic grace, forbearance, and dignity. A rosary will follow at 7:00PM. A funeral mass will be help on April 9th at 12:00PM at St. Bartholomew?s Church, corner of Alameda and Crystal Springs Road, San Mateo.
