Mary Cirelli

Mary passed away August 23, 2007 at the beautiful age of 101. Mary was born June 9, 1906 in San Colombano di Certenoli near Chiavari, Italy. Mary lost her mother at a young age and was not able to join her father in Lodi until after World War I. She arrived on Ellis Island on May 14, 1919 and traveled to Lodi where she lived until she married Frank Cirelli on February 14,1927. Frank and Mary moved to North Beach and remained in San Francisco for 35 years. In 1964 they moved to Millbrae where they continued their cooking, gardening and trips to Lake Tahoe. Frank died in 1980.Mary was the beloved mother of Anita Ferroggiaro and her late husband John; George Cirelli and his wife Del.She was Nonnie to Linda Lacampagne, Nancy Segreto and Paul Ferroggiaro and their spouses Paul, Joe and Allison; Steven Cirelli and Cheryl Otto and their spouses Elise and Keith;Mikael and Erik Langner and his wife Stephanie. Family was everything to Mary and she eagerly greeted all her great-grand children, becoming Nonnie Mary to David, Marco Alessandra, Michaela, Perry and Matthew. She was matriarch to the extended Cirelli family in California and Italy; loving Lala to the families of Rita Vigna and the late Olga, Gino and Carlo Cirelli and cousins Eva and Joe Valenti of Lodi. Her entire family gathered to celebrate her 100th birthday, publishing a cookbook of the traditional family recipes in honor of her outstanding cooking skills. The family thanks Bertha Acuna, who was Mary?s companion for 11 years. The family would also like to thank the entire staff at Home Sweet Home in Colma where she received such wonderful care and left behind a great number of friends. She was an active member of their community, participating in all their activities, including the Silver Bells. Mary was a wonderful example of a woman, mother and grandmother. Her family and many friends will miss her. We were truly blessed to have had her in our lives for so long.
