Melba Marinello

Melba Carmel (Caviglia) Marinello Passed away peacefully on July 31, 2012, at the age of 89 with her family at her side. Loving wife of the late August (Gus) Marinello; devoted mother of Russell (Eileen) Marinello and Susan (Thomas) Stenson; beloved Nonnie of Jason (Jamie) and Lisa Marinello, Georgina (Ofa) Veimau, Marisa Tassio and the late Jeffry (Connie) Marinello; doting great-grandmother of Dominic, Tony and Nicco Veimau and Emily, Tyler and Isabella Marinello; cherished daughter of the late Stefano Caviglia and Adele Parodi; loving sister of the late Fances Malucchi; loving sister-in-law of Bruno Malucchi; also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends. Melba's family gratefully acknowledges the loving support of her caregivers Tina and Leti Kautai. Melba was born on August 14, 1922, in San Francisco. She attended Bret Harte, Portola Jr. High and Commerce High School. She married Gus, her neighborhood sweetheart, on October 19, 1941, at All Hallows Church. After a brief business career, she devoted the rest of her life to being a wonderful housewife and mother. For the next 65 years, Melba and Gus were inseparable, traveling together, attending social events together, and hosting numerous parties for their many friends and large extended family. Melba enjoyed cooking, dancing, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends. She never missed Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune; she loved Dancing with the Stars and even enjoyed finding reruns of the Lawrence Welk show. Melba was a devoted wife, a terrific mother, a super Nonnie, a wonderful great-grandmother, a faithful sister and sister-in-law, a special Zia, and a loyal friend. We will all miss her very much. Now that she can be with her beloved Gus, she can truly rest in peace. Friends and family may visit on Sunday, August 5 after 4:00 p.m. with the Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. at Valente Marini Perata & Company, 4840 Mission Street, San Francisco. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Angels Church, 107 San Pedro Road, Colma. Committal to follow at the Italian Cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
